A CHARITY handing out cash to needy community groups is celebrating a £2,000 cash injection from a leading construction company.
Quill Construction, based in Rayleigh, has donated the cash to the Southend Fund.
Managing director Dean Johnston handed over the cheque to Howard Briggs, chairman of the Southend Fund, at their company HQ on Brook Road Industrial Estate. Mr Johnston said:
“We are a local company and we support many children’s charities, but our heart goes out to the many other local voluntary and community groups in Southend.
“Tapping into the expertise of the Southend Fund and its knowledge of the needs of local people means that we know our donation will have maximum impact.
“An added bonus is that, thanks to the Grassroots Challenge, our corporate donation is increased by 50 per cent.”
The Southend Fund, managed by Essex Community Foundation, was launched in August 2008 and has already given £114,000 to 28 voluntary and community groups.
Under the Grassroots Challenge programme, the Southend Fund must raise £315,000 in order to attract £157,000 in matched Government funding before the programme ends in March 2011
